Oregon State University Extension Service in Lane County announces Jacki Holien as a certified Master Gardener! The Annual Badging and Awards Dinner was held on December 10, welcoming newly certified Master Gardener volunteers, including Holien, a Florence resident.

“As a lifelong gardener, being able to give back is one of the driving forces of why I became a Master Gardener,” shared Holien. “Gardening on the coast is a new challenge. But one I look forward to.”

To become a certified Master Gardener, Holien completed 40 hours of training classes and 40 hours of volunteer service.

“Some of my earliest memories are of my grandmother’s garden. Eating sun ripened tomatoes is something every child should experience,” said Holien.

She hopes to help home gardeners through mobile plant clinics and other educational events. There are now three certified Master Gardeners who live in the Siuslaw region. They are available to provide garden advice that is grounded in science and locally relevant.
