Author Sue DeMarinis to Discuss Latest Book
Oregon author Sue DeMarinis will be speaking at the Siuslaw Public Library on Thurs., Sept. 24th, at 2pm, about her novel The Feathers of Fortunato, a multi-generational story of an Italian-American family. Ride the roller coaster from rags to riches, financially and emotionally, following this Italian immigrant family who found the American dream, lost it and recovered a legacy of strength and success through the 20th century’s tumultuous Twenties, desperate Thirties, and flourishing Forties.
Marino finds the feathers of the millinery trade open doors to high society for him and his brothers, a career that allows for contacts with notorious underworld characters, like fellow Italian immigrant Lucky Luciano. But when society falls from prosperity to poverty during the Depression, it’s the women of Marino’s family that set a course for survival through their cunning connections with Broadway starlets, Mafioso hit men, Italian speakeasies, and the haute couture of WW II German-occupied Paris.
Author Sue DeMarinis is a Brooklyn, New York, native, now living in Ashland, Oregon. She retired after 30 years as a chiropractor and took up writing novels. She is also the author of Hidden in Haarlem and The Stationmaster’s Wife, which has a Florence, Oregon, connection. DeMarinis has previously visited the Siuslaw Public Library to discuss these books. She will also be at the Florence Festival of Books on Sat., Sept. 26, 2026.
