The Siuslaw Region
The Siuslaw region, sometimes referred to as western Lane County, stretches from coastal Glenada and Dunes City, eight miles south of Florence—the region’s hub at the mouth of the Siuslaw River—to the inland communities of Deadwood, Mapleton, and Swisshome, which are 30 miles upriver. This rural region is home to an estimated 18,000 residents and adjoins lands of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians.
The Siuslaw region is an engaged community. More than 10 service clubs operate in the area; myriad organizations, such as the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, the Siuslaw Education Foundation, and the Florence Regional Arts Alliance, are vigorously working to improve quality of life for residents.
