Shore Pines apartments residents got a special treat on Halloween with the unveiling of two new outdoor murals.

The two murals, one at the entrance to each building, were designed and painted by Seattle-based artists Perri Rhoden and Bashir Davis.

“They have vast experience bringing art to diverse communities and an uncanny ability to create pieces that connect people, spark imagination, and elicit conversation,” said Clayton Crowhurst, MSRE, senior housing developer with Northwest Housing Alternatives. “The murals they created for Shore Pines symbolize the vibrant relationship growing between the Shore Pines Community and Florence.” The flowing, curvy lines and abstract hands within these panels represent the partnerships that weave us together, with each line symbolizing the bonds that sustain us. The hands gently cradle these forms, embodying the care and responsibility we hold for one another, and the quiet ways we lift each other up.

At their unveiling on Oct. 31 it was incredible to already hear residents interpreting the pieces through their own lived experiences and connecting with each other as they discussed what the murals meant to each other.

In the words of Bashir Davis “Art is a vital part of every community. It brings us together and makes us feel seen, heard, and connected.”
