EMAC PLANS ARBOR DAY, EARTH DAY CELEBRATION FOR APRIL 25
FLORENCE, OR – The City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) is partnering with SOLVE to celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with a community cleanup event on Saturday April 25, from 10 am to 1 pm. Volunteers are invited to remove ivy, scotch broom, and other invasive plants from the City’s walking trails, roadways, and parks. There will also be trail cleanup activities.
Invasive plants are threatening local flora in the coastal area. These plants do not belong here and often spread aggressively, crowding out native vegetation. The resulting loss of natives results in lower quality habitat for birds, bees, deer, and other animals and ivy smothers our trees, blocking light and competing for water and nutrients. What better way to celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day than to be working outside and helping protect our natural areas?
Volunteers will meet at the new Siuslaw River Estuary Trail parking lot, where they will form teams to work at different locations within the City. Safety information and best practices for removing ivy, scotch broom, and other invasive species will be provided.
