Black and white logo for Oregon State University Extension ServiceThe Oregon State University Extension Service will be hosting a field tour to explore growing coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) on the Oregon coast. This tour offers a chance for small woodland owners to learn directly from professional foresters who have years of hands‑on experience growing and managing redwoods.

The event will be held on Friday, April 24 from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Participants will meet in Gardiner, OR, and will travel in vans to various locations on the tour. The fee is $20 per person.

This tour is ideal for landowners or stewards who are already growing redwood or who are interested in growing redwood on their property. We will explore practical insights and current research on topics such as: Assisted migration and climate considerations; Tissue‑culture cultivars vs. seedlings; Nursery options and availability; Alternative Reforestation Plans with Oregon Department of Forestry; Stump sprouting behavior; Herbicide use and vegetation management; Volume growth comparisons; Marketing opportunities; And animal, disease, and weather‑related damage.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. To register or learn more, visit https://extension.oregonstate.edu/douglas/events/exploring-coast-redwood-management-oregon-coast or contact Carrie Mack at 541-237-6808 or carrie.mack@oregonstate.edu.
