Scotch Broom Removal at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River County Park – Saturday, March 28
Volunteers are needed to join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks to remove invasive Scotch broom at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River County Park on Saturday, March 28 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working close to the parking area on flat, sandy slopes and/or along the road near the parking area.
We have made a lot of progress removing the Scotch broom at this location, but there is more to do. We get a lot done when a number of people can volunteer. Bring closed-toe shoes, work gloves, water, and snacks. Please bring shovels, hand saws, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t, ODRC will have tools you can borrow.
As you know, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny, which we are hoping for on the 28th, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting, we will be working, if it is a storm, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon, the 27th. Check our Facebook page, Save the Oregon Dunes or our website, www.SaveOregonDunes.org/events/ for updates.
Directions:
From the intersection of Hwy. 101 and Hwy. 126 in Florence, OR, go west on 9th Street 0.9 miles, turn right on Rhododendron Dr. and go 2.9 miles, turn left on North Jetty Rd. and go 1.0 mile to the North Jetty Beach parking lot. Watch out for potholes near the end of the road!
The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s mission is to collaboratively support, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand, unique habitats, and dunes processes that benefit the plants, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
